It is now over a decade since the publication of the “Purple RFT book” (Hayes, Barnes- Holmes, & Roche, 2001), and since then empirical research into RFT processes and applications has grown dramatically (Dymond, May, Munnelly, & Hoon, 2010). As the contents of the present volume testify, research on RFT has advanced the functional contextualistic understanding of language and cognition in numerous ways. An important research domain for the further extension and analysis of RFT is experimental psychopathology and, in particular, with understanding the role of verbal relational processes in the myriad complex behaviors involved in human suffering.
