I am a 3rd year undergraduate microbiology student at Trinity College Dublin, with a great interest in neural genetics and physiology. In 2016, I started a degree in general science covering the topics of biology, chemistry, geology and geography. In second year I narrowed the scope of my studies to biology and geology. I also came in the top 25% of my course in the highly competitive yearly scholarship examinations.

In may 2017 I began work with Professor Whelan in Trinity College Dublin, on several projects involving wet EEG data collection and analysis, participant recruitment and coordination, participant testing, genetic sample filing and storage as well as IT systems management. In October of the same year I took on an official position as a research assistant until May 2018. During this time I worked on several research projects including an SFI-funded project on the “Neural correlates of nicotine abstinence in humans” and “The effect of binge drinking in adults” funded by the European Foundation for Alcohol Research.

In June 2018 I began an internship with BrainWaveBank, where I helped design, develop and test dry EEG headsets and related software to be used via a mobile app. This was used as part of the company’s project to develop a brain reading and machine learning system to analyse participant cognitive brain health and suggested courses of

My interests focus on cellular and genetic physiology, intercellular and intra-cellular communication, neural degradation, stem cell differentiation to neuron cells, repair and reproduction of cells, or lack thereof, in the neural systems.  I also have an interest in Human-Machine interfacing and Artificial Intelligence.

I hope to continue my studies into the fields of genetics and neuroscience as a career in publicly accessible research in the above fields, including working towards a PhD in Neural Genetics.
