About Laura:

Laura Milena Rueda Delgado is working as a postdoc investigating the deficits of motor inhibition in ADHD and addiction in adolescents using electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

She graduated top of her class with a Bachelor in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. She received a scholarship from the European Commission to undertake the Common European Master’s Course in Biomedical Engineering (CEMACUBE) at Ghent University in Ghent, Belgium, and at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), in Dublin, Ireland. In TCD she presented the master thesis titled “Quantitative EEG analysis of patients with anoxic brain injury”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Richard Reilly, which aimed to develop an experimental paradigm to obtain neural markers of consciousness in patients in a coma.

Later, she received a second scholarship from the European Commission, this time for pursuing doctoral studies within the Joint Doctorate Program MOVE-AGE in the Motor Control and Neural Plasticity Research Group of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven under supervision of Prof. Dr. Stephan Swinnen and Prof. Dr. Dante Mantini, and the MOVE Institute of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam under supervision of Prof. Dr. Andreas Daffertshofer. The title of her doctoral thesis was “Ageing and brain plasticity: Training-induced alterations in spectral power of the brain and motor coordination”. During her doctoral studies, she investigated the neural correlates of bimanual task difficulty, motor learning and aging using EEG (scalp measures) reconstructed at the source level (neuronal measures) with individual head models of high accuracy for each participant.

 

Current research:

Laura is interested in applying signal and image processing techniques to unravel how the brain works in different contexts using multimodal imaging methods. Among her methodological interests, you can find EEG and fMRI analysis, spectral analysis, source estimation methods, multivariate statistics, machine learning, and longitudinal analysis. Among her scientific interests, you can find bimanual task difficulty, motor learning, motor control and inhibition, aging, ADHD, and brain development.
