Aoife Sweeney

meettheteam-aoife_photoI graduated from Maynooth University in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) Psychology. I also hold an MSc in Foundations of Clinical Neuropsychology from Bangor University, Wales. My MSc thesis research explored the electrocortical correlates of decision-making under multisensory conditions, with applications for ADHD. Following this, I completed an internship in the research lab of the Child and Adolescent Department of Psychiatry, Uniklinik Köln. During this placement I assisted on projects which used EEG and TMS methodologies to investigate ADHD.

I’m particularly interested in neurodevelopmental disorders and addictive behaviours. I would like to focus my research on uncovering endophenotypes of these conditions, with the aim of improving clinical assessment and patient treatment across the lifespan. At present I’m working in the Whelan Lab as a research assistant, assisting on projects which use electrophysiological and behavioural measures to investigate predictors of successful smoking cessation.
